National HIV Testing Day is here again, which means it’s time for all of us to find a testing site in our area so we can know our statuses, and get the healthcare we need and deserve!
Last Saturday, WORLD’s Outreach and Linkage Specialists Janelle and Shaniece tested Mayor Libby Schaaf during Oakland’s Juneteenth celebration! Libby later said, “The most important thing a person can do to help fight HIV/AIDS is to know their status; and if positive seek treatment, and if negative learn the many ways to protect themselves.”
WORLD is providing free HIV testing and PrEP resources today at Friendly Manor, a woman’s drop in center and residence, ran by St. Mary’s Center, located at 925 Brockhurst St, Oakland, CA 94608. We’re there from 10 AM – 2 PM, and at Walgreens on 34th and Telegraph from 3 PM – 7 PM with our community partners Cal-PEP, giving out free hygiene kits and food, while Cal-PEP does the testing (and the grilling)!
We’d love to see you today – WORLD provides a wide variety of services, including psychosocial support, linkage to care, and case management. We also offer PrEP navigation for all genders, so no matter your status, we’ve got you covered. However, if you’re not in Oakland, you still deserve to know your status! The CDC’s testing site locator is a great way to find a location that works for you. The most important thing is to get tested – and please feel free to share with us how you’re #DoingItMyWay on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or right below in the comments!
